Yannick M. BLEC

Yannick M. BLEC obtained his Ph.D at Université Paris-Est and now teaches at Université Paris 8 Vincennes Saint-Denis. His dissertation was entitled The Blafringo-Arumerican in William Melvin Kelley's Works, African American Identity Between Concept and Lived Experience. It focused on the way the writer represented African American individuals in his narratives at the time of segregation in the USA and pertains to the field of cultural studies. 


BLEC is interested in the questions of the construction of the subalterns' identities when they are related to a dominant group, as well as in race relations, especially in the USA. Therefore he focuses on African American identites, more specifically on the inherent intersections in LGBTQ+ African American masculinites in US 'hoods. In addition to representations, his research also tries to highlight the figures of racial, sexual and gender emancipations in the arts (literature, hip hop, cinema, popular cultures, and so on) as they are used to convey political messages for rights equalities.
