Virginie Beaucousin

In everyday life, we associate an emotional value to significant events that allows us to react adatively to future encounters. Emotions have an impact on brain circuits, in particular those which are involved in high cognitive functions. My work is dedicated to the emotional prody role during the understanding of social interactions. Les émotions influencent donc les réseaux cérébraux et en particulier ceux mis en jeu par les fonctions cognitives de haut niveau. Prosody is defined in everyday life as the language melody. It allows defining the emotional state of locutors. At the linguistic point of view, it is considred as a para-verbal element, i.e. litterally aside the verbal content. Through several collaborations, I have shown that emotional prosody plays a very important role in understanding oral interactions with others as well as the verbal content. Thanks to cognitive neuroscience methods, We evidenced the neural basis of the understanding of emotional prosody that are part of the neural basis of social cognitions. Nowafays, my research program investigate the impact of the presence of emotional prosody on other cogntivie function like visuo-spatial attention or face perception. These stydies offers opportunities for psychological assessment of Alzheimer dementia or schizophrenia.
