**Maître de Conférences Habilité à Diriger des Recherches Hors Classe** **Work** IMAG, Université de Montpellier CC 051 - Place Eugène Bataillon F-34095 Montpellier Cedex 5 Tel: +33 4 67 14 41 66 Mail: thomas.hausberger\_AT\_umontpellier.fr Nationality: French Married **Chronological** • 8 February 1974: Born in Strasbourg, France • 2001-1998: PhD. Student, U. of Strasbourg (France) & U. of Bielefeld (Germany) • Jan. 2001: PhD in Mathematical Sciences from U. of Strasbourg & U. of Bielefeld Supervisors: H. Carayol & T. Zink Thesis: uniformization of Laumon Rapoport Stuhler modular varieties and application to the local Langlands correspondence. [https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-01408445](/tel-01408445). Jury: U. Stuhler, G. Laumon, J.-F. Boutot, H. Carayol, Th. Zink, H. Reiman • 2009-2001: Associate Professor in Mathematics (Maître de conférences), U. of Montpellier • 2016-2009: Associate Professor in Mathematics Education, U. of Montpellier • Nov. 2016: Habilitation to supervise research Title: teaching and learning of Abstract Algebra at university and first elements of a didactic of algebraic structuralism: cross- studies in didactics and epistemology of mathematics. [https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-01408565](/tel-01408565). Jury : M. Artigue, C. Winsløw, F. Patras, M. Bosch, G. Gueudet, V. Durand-Guerrier, A. Bruguières **Research area** My early career research focused on Number Theory and Arithmetical Geometry, more precisely automorphic forms and the Langlands program. Responding to the call of Philosophy and the Human Sciences, I progressively undertook a thematic reconversion to Didactics and Epistemology of Mathematics. A large part of my current work falls in the area of University Mathematics Education (UME) research with a special focus on the teaching and learning of Abstract Algebra at the transition between undergraduate and graduate studies. The originality of this research project and its ultimate goal is the development of a “didactics of mathematical structuralism” that takes into account the following epistemological and didactical dialectics: concrete / abstract, object / structure, definition / proof, syntax / semantics. I use and develop for this purpose different tools within the Anthropological Theory of the Didactics (Chevallard), the Theory of Didactical Situations (Brousseau), and semio-cognitive frameworks (Vergnaud, Duval, etc.). I am also investigating other topics in Mathematics Education research such as "Klein's second discontinuity" (the transfer of advanced mathematical knowledge to knowledge useful for the high school teacher), teacher training with a focus on using history and epistemology tools in the classroom, and mathematics-science interdisciplinarity at various levels (secondary and tertiary education). Finally, I am involved in the activities of the international study group on the relations between History and Pedagogy of Mathematics (HPM), in the community of Philosophy of Mathematics Education, and I am developing joint research programs in Philosophy and Didactics of Mathematics in France. **Selection of responsibilities** *Administration* • co-Coordinator of the International Network for Didactic Research in University Mathematics (INDRUM) (-2024) • Director of the [GDR CNRS N°2076 DEMIPS](https://demips.math.cnrs.fr/) (2020) • Member of the Study Board of the Mathematics Department, U. of Montpellier (2011-2006) • Member of the Study Board of the Faculty of Sciences, U. of Montpellier (2009-2005) • Member of the Conseil National des Universités, section 25 Mathématiques pures (2007-2003) *International Organisations* • Co-founder and Member of the Board of INDRUM (International Network for Didactic Research in University Mathematics) (-2014) Conference Organisation • Co-leader of the TWG56 working group on Philosophy of Mathematics and Mathematics Education, Changhai, China, 2020 • Chair of the Scientific Committee of INDRUM 2020, Bizerte, Tunisia, 2020 • Co-leader of the working group on University Mathematics Education at EMF (2019) • Co-leader of the working group on University Mathematics Education at CERME (2017) • Co-chair of HPM 2016 and chair of the local organising committee, Montpellier, 2016 • Co-chair of the local organising committee of INDRUM 2016, Montpellier, 2016 *Scientific Journals* • Founding Editor of the [Epijournal EpiDEMES](https://epidemes.episciences.org/) • Member of the Editorial Board of PetitX (2023-2014) • Guest editor for International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology • Referee for Educational Studies in Mathematics, International Journal of Research on Undergraduate Mathematics Education, ZDM - Mathematics Education, Journal of Mathematical Behavior, Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, Recherches en Didactiques des Mathématiques & Annales de Didactique et de Sciences Cognitives *Graduate Education* • Supervisor of 3 completed and 1 current Ph.D.-thesis • Supervisor of 6 completed M.Sc.-theses • Head of the Master degree programme in Science Didactics, U. of Montpellier (2019-2020) • Head of the Master 1 degree programme in Science Didactics, U. of Montpellier (2016-2020) *Consultant and Committee work* • Member of committees for associate professorships • Expert for the French National Agency for Research (ANR) • Expert for the Center for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC), Lithunania (23-29 April, 2017) **Selection of funded projects** • Groupement de Recherche DEMIPS, University Mathematics Education research (CNRS, - 2020) • Integrate Disciplines to Elaborate Novel Teaching approaches to InTerdisciplinarity and Innovate pre-service teacher Education for STEM challenges (IDENTITIES), Erasmus + project 2019-1-IT02-KA203-063184 • Groupement de Recherche PhilMath, Philosophy of Mathematics (CNRS, - 2015) • Groupement de Recherche Théorie des Nombres, Number Theory (CNRS, 2009-2002) • Arithmetical Algebraic Geometry (European Marie Curie Research Training Network, 2007-1998)
