Riccardo Pengo


Current affiliation

I am a MILYON postdoc at the Unité de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées of the École normale supérieure de Lyon.


I have obtained my PhD, supervised by Ian Kiming and Fabien Pazuki at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Copenhagen, in October 2020.
Before this, I obtained my ALGANT Master from the University of Milan and Leiden University in July 2017. My master thesis was advised by Peter Bruin.

Research interests

My primary research interests lie in arithmetic geometry, which is to say that I like to study number theoretical problems related to geometric objects, such as curves defined over the rational numbers. More precisely, I have been interested in the following topics:

  • "special" values of motivic L-functions, and their connections to periods (conjectures of Beilinson and Bloch-Kato);
  • Mahler measures of polynomials, and their relations to special values of L-functions (conjectures of Boyd);
  • Northcott, Bogomolov and Lehmer properties for families of special values of L-functions;
  • elliptic curves and abelian varieties with complex multiplication, and Galois representations associated to their torsion points.
