Quentin Dufour is a sociologist, post-doctoral fellow at the Centre Maurice Halbwachs (ENS-EHESS, UMR CNRS 8097), and head of the research chair QUALIDATA funded by Region Ile-de-France. He is also a member of Institut Santé Numérique en Société within Paris Santé Campus. Quentin Dufour’s work is at the crossroads of the sociology of quantification and data, and the sociology of science and technology. He is mainly interested in the activity of measurement in the world of official statistics. Through ethnographic surveys, he tackles questions around data production processes and data quality. Besides, he has developed a second line of research on the transformations of academic publishing at the open access age. He made his PhD between Paris-Dauphine University (IRISSO) and Mines ParisTech (CSI). His thesis focuses on the activity of GDP measurement, as it takes place in the daily work of public statisticians. It pinpoints the organizational and moral dimensions that shape the numerical representation of the economy, highlighting the role of choices, tacit knowledge, and interpretation in calculation processes. It also insists on the singularity of the numbers that statisticians produce, and therefore on the singularity of the representation of the economy. After his defense in 2019, Quentin Dufour did a postdoctorate on the economy of academic publication at the open access age. He investigated the contractual relationships between academic libraries and publishers (transformative agreements), as well as the economic models of the so-called "Diamond" journals. In 2022, he started a new postdoctorate within the research chair QUALIDATA, at Centre Maurice Halbwachs, ENS. He is also a member of the Institut Santé Numérique en Société, Paris Santé Campus. As part of his researches on measurement in official statistics, his project focuses on the production of public health data during the Covid crisis.
