Présentation
I am a research scientist at the French National Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE), in Toulouse, France, specializing in understanding how crop species interact with their biophysical environment. My research, initially focusing on homogeneous crop stands, has evolved to explore the complexities of diverse crop systems.
I started by working with plant breeders and extension services. I measured, analyzed, and modeled how various sunflower cultivars respond and adapt to their cropping environment by using concepts and tools from plant ecophysiology. I relied on computational experiments to identify combinations of plant characteristics and management options that improved crop performance and stability in given production situations. Such systems approach have the advantage to apply both to the management of actual genetic material (cultivar choice) and to the breeding of new material through genome-wide association studies.
The need for more sustainable and probably diverse cropping systems presents unique challenges, particularly in scaling dynamical models. To address this, I am exploring how community ecology principles and data science methodologies can help to understand less controlled and more species-varied cropping systems.
