Marc P. De Micheli


Dr Marc P. De Micheli received the Ph.D. degree and the "Habilitation à diriger les recherches" from University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, France in 1982 and 1991 respectively.

 

In 1982-1984, he had an engineer position at the Fraunhofer Institut für Physikalische Meßtechnik in Freiburg, Germany.

 

In 1984, he joined the CNRS and the Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis to work at "Laboratoire de Physique de la Matière Condensée" (LPMC). His activity was focused on Integrated Optics in LiNbO3 designing, fabricating and characterizing different components realized using the proton exchange technique. The progress he achieved in the comprehension and the control of this fabrication process allowed him successfully participating to the realization of CW, mode locked and Q-switched integrated lasers in Neodymium doped LiNbO3. Since 1990, he has been working on waveguide fabrication in periodically poled crystals to achieve phase matching condition at room temperature. He has demonstrated parametric fluorescence with a great efficiency, and his present goal is the realization of highly efficient nonlinear devices such as an integrated OPO and integrated optics circuits adapted to quantum optics communications.

 

In 2001 he was appointed as "Directeur de Recherche".

 

From 2003 to 2005, he was the CEO of Moduloptic, a start-up aiming at fabricating active integrated optics components based on lithium niobate.

 

In 2006, he created a new research team, joining researcher from LPMC and from CRHEA (Centre de Recherche sur les Hétéro-Epitaxies et leurs Applications) in order to extend his nonlinear optics activities to micro and nano-structurated semiconductors materials and more specifically to GaN. In 2015, he became "Directeur de Recherche de première classe"

 

Dr. De Micheli has published over 100 scientific papers on these subjects and presented over 200 communications in various conferences.

 

He is one of the funding member of POPSud, the non-profit organization which is at the origin of the Photonic cluster OPTITEC. Since 2010, he is secretary of the cluster.

 

From 2008 to 2012 he was elected at the Scientific Council of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. In 2016, he was elected as a member of the Research Council of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. He is member of the board of the Research Council and President of the Finance Council.

 

From 2011 to 2016, he was deputy Director of LPMC, in charge of valorization actions and he founded the Scientific Group of Interest “Azur-Opto”, which gathers the researchers in Optics active on the French Riviera.

 

He is member of the Société Française d'Optique, the European Optical Society and the Optical Society of America.
