**Dr. Jorge Martinez-Gil** (Plasencia, Spain, 1983) is a computer scientist working in the Data and Knowledge Engineering field. He got his PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Computer Science at the University of Malaga, Spain in 2010. **Positions:** He has held a number of positions across some European countries: Austria (Linz), Germany (Leipzig), Spain (Extremadura and Malaga), as well as a number of research stays in Austria (Innsbruck), and Spain (Mallorca). He currently holds a **Senior Research Scientist** position within the group of **Data Management** from the **Software Competence Center Hagenberg** (SCCH) in Austria where he is managing several applied and fundamental research projects involving the use of knowledge-based technologies. Prior to join SCCH, he hold an acting professorship within the University of Extremadura at Caceres (Spain). **Teaching:** Dr. Martinez-Gil is currently on charge of the subject Big data and Cloud Computing within the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria at Hagenberg. In 2016, he was in charge of the subject "Web Business" within the University of Applied Sciences of Kufstein, in Tirol. Mr. Martinez-Gil holds around 350 hours on teaching experience on subjects like Foundations of Computer Science, Information Systems for the Public Administration, etc. on different languages, and on different countries across European Union. **Projects and Publications:** Dr. Martinez-Gil has been working in a number of national and international projects since 2006. As a result, Mr. Martinez-Gil has published more than 50 scientific publications (books, book chapters, journal papers, conference papers), including 16 papers published in highly-ranked JCR journals like SIGMOD Record, Knowledge and Information Systems, Information Systems Frontiers, Knowledge-Based Systems, Artificial Intelligence Review, Knowl. Engineering Review, Online Information Review, Journal of Universal Computer Science, Journal of Computer Science and Technology, Cognitive Systems Research, and so on. **Academic Professional activities:** Dr. Martinez-Gil is involved in the evaluation of many scientific manuscripts (+20 different academic journals and conferences: Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge-based Systems, Knowledge and Information Systems, Expert systems with applications...), project proposals and study programs in ICT related fields. In fact, he serves/has served as an expert for a number of funding agencies from **European Commission (FP7, H2020)**, **France**, **Belgium**, **Germany**, **Spain**, **Croatia**, **Czech Republic**, **Italy**, **Poland**, etc. **Non-Academic Professional activities:** Dr. Martinez-Gil is a technical evaluator of new books for the editorial companies Manning and Anaya. In recent times, he has also taken part as a scientific member of some startup accelerators in **Spain** and **Serbia**. **Awards:** Dr. Martinez-Gil received the Award to the Best Academic Performance from the University of Extremadura in 2007 (Category: Sciences), and Honorific Scholarship from the German DAAD in 2009.
