Présentation

**Please visit my website for updated CV**:[ https://sites.google.com/view/marievannetzel/home ](https://sites.google.com/view/marievannetzel/home) I am a Tenured Research Fellow at CNRS (French national center for scientific research) and I am currently affiliated to the CEDEJ (Center for legal, economic and social studies and documentation in Cairo, Egypt). I am a political sociologist, specialized in Middle Eastern Studies, and have been studying Egypt for 15 years. My main research interest is the politics of social action as a space of interaction and competition between public, private and grassroots actors. I hold a PhD from Sciences Po Paris which I dedicated to the study of the local political and social action of the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo, under Mubarak's regime (2007-2012). My PhD dissertation was published in French and in English. As a post-doctoral researcher in Sciences Po (2013-2012), I also completed fieldworks on electoral processes in Egypt, as well as on exiled politics in Turkey. I am currently working on a book project: Bread and Circuits. A Political sociology of Subsidies in Egypt. It focuses on State practices of social redistribution, by studying the current reform of Food and Energy subsidies and the shift to targeted conditional cash transfers programs. I use qualitative methodology (semi-conductive interviews, ethnographic observations, database) in an interdisciplinary approach combining political science, sociology and anthropology.
