Albano Mariangela

My research to date has been largely in three overlapping areas. These are metaphors, teaching and learning phraseology and translation. My PhD thesis on the analysis of the delexicalised and creative metaphors was the first attempt to relate the theory of conceptual metaphors (Lakoff and Johnson, 1980, 1999) to the theory of analogy (Gentner, 1983; Gentner and Markmann, 1995; Hofstadter, 1995; Genter, Holoyoak and Kokinov, 2001; Monneret, 2004) and to the theory of blending (Fauconnier and Turner, 2002). My work aimed at observing human creativity and cognition and the relation between myth and metaphors. More specifically, my project endeavoured to investigate metaphors and creativity and to analyse myths in everyday life using a cognitive approach.

In recent years my research has become more concerned with the processes of learning and teaching foreign languages. I am developing a new applied approach to the phraseodidactics of French as Foreign Language by using a cognitive-psycholinguistic approach.

Additionally, I am undertaking research with cognitive analysis on the translation process, on the language for specific purposes field and on the field of linguistic analysis of texts.
