Fonctions de direction scientifique

- Laurent Krähenbühl (61 ans) dirige le Département Méthodes pour l’ingénierie des systèmes (MIS) du Laboratoire Ampère (CNRS UMR5005). Avec plus de 80 personnes personnes dont près de 50 permanents, post-docs et invités, ce Département représente la moitié des forces vives du Laboratoire Ampère.
- Dans ce Département, il a dirigé également le groupe de recherche Modélisation Multiéchelle pour la Conception MMC (9 permanents) jusqu'à la restructuration du Laboratoire à la fin de l'association quinquennale précédente.

Responsabilités internationales

- LIA Maxwell - Laurent Krähenbühl est le créateur du Laboratoire International franco-brésilien James Clerk Maxwell (LIA-817) qui regroupe des équipes du G2ELab et d’Ampère pour la France, de l’Ecole Polytechnique de l’USP, et des Universités Fédérales de Santa Catarina et Minas Gerais pour le Brésil. Ce LIA compte environ 40 participants effectifs. Il a dirigé ce laboratoire de 2008 à 2016. Il a passé la main à O. Chadebec (G2Elab) à l'occasion du renouvellement 2017-2020 de ce LIA, mais en reste l'animateur pour le groupe de Lyon.

- IEEE CEFC’2014 - Il a été « Editorial Board Chairman » de la conférence IEEE CEFC-2014 (président du Comité scientifique international), qui est avec Compumag l’une des conférences internationales majeures pour le calcul numérique des champs électromagnétiques. 
En lien avec cette responsabilité, il était en 2013 Editeur Associé pour IEEE Transactions on Magnetics (publication d’une sélection de papiers suite à la Conférence Compumag), puis Editeur en Chef IEEE pour le volume IEEE T-Mag de mars 2015.

- 10ème EMF - Il a été choisi par le Comité scientifique de la conférence internationale EMF International Symposium on Electric and Magneitc Fields pour présider sa dixième édition en 2016 avec le Laboratoire Ampère, à Lyon.

Responsabilités locales ou nationales

- ECL - LK est fortement intégré à la vie de son Etablissement universitaire d’accueil (l’Ecole Centrale de Lyon), où il enseigne une quarantaine d’heures par an, et dont il a été membre élu du Conseil Scientifique jusqu'en 2017 (4 mandats), et membre de divers conseils consultatifs, Commissions de Spécialistes ou Comités de Nomination.

- ERC GEST : membre du Conseil Scientifique.

- CoNRS - Il a été membre de la section 08 du Comité National de la Recherche Scientifique de janvier à septembre 2012.

Parcours de recherche

Ingénieur électricien de l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Suisse, 1978), spécialisé en télécommunications et théorie des circuits, Laurent Krähenbühl enseigne les mathématiques en lycée au Cameroun pendant deux années, puis découvre le génie électrique chez Siemens (Erlangen, Allemagne) comme ingénieur en énergie et planification des réseaux électriques.
En 1981, il entame une thèse à l’Ecole Centrale de Lyon, sous la direction effective d’Alain Nicolas et portant sur la méthode des équations intégrales de frontière. Docteur en 1983, il travaille comme ingénieur de recherche pour le Laboratoire d’Electrotechnique de Lyon (LEL, précurseur de l’actuelle UMR5005) et Cedrat-Recherche (essentiellement sur l’extension en 3D de la méthode intégrale, avec une application spécifique à la protection cathodique des coques de navires) avant d’être nommé Chargé de Recherche CNRS au LEL(1985) dont il est le premier personnel CNRS.
L’équipe comprenant Laurent Krähenbühl, Laurent et Alain Nicolas est auteur du logiciel d’équations intégrales « Phi3d », qui a été entre 1985 et 1995 le seul logiciel effectivement capable de réaliser des calculs tridimensionnels « industriels » en électrostatique et en électrothermie (industrialisation et commercialisation par Cedrat, licences vendues à EDF, Renault, Schneider, Alstom, DCN, Thomson, Hydro-Québec, Centre de Los Alamos, ...).

LK s’intéresse ensuite successivement aux problèmes spécifiques liés à la modélisation des milieux minces ; aux problèmes à singularités ; aux méthodes d’optimisation, en particulier stochastiques, toujours en association avec les méthodes numériques de modélisation (équations intégrales de frontière et éléments finis), aux méthodes de conception et à l’évolution des systèmes complexes et aux méthodes d’homogénéisation des milieux à structure périodique ou quasi-périodiques. Ses travaux les plus récents contribuent à l’amélioration de l’efficacité des méthodes numériques (méthodes de "perturbations", en collaboration avec l’Université de Liège ; méthodes asymptotiques, en collaboration avec des mathématiciens appliqués ; prise en compte des incertitudes des données).

Il est actuellement impliqué dans l’ANR "PolHar CEM" et dans un projet "plan cancer" (Modélisation dynamique de l'électroporation : de la cellule au tissu), dans la suite des deux projets  E-CEM et Memove; il participe au Labex "Primes" ; il dirige 4 travaux de doctorat : 2 en lien avec la CEM, 1 en lien avec la modélisation des matériaux magnétiques, 1 en robotique médicale.

LK a encadré plus de vingt thèses. Il est auteur ou co-auteur de plus de 90 publications en revues internationales à comité de lecture et de plus de 150 communications en conférences internationales à Comités, travaux cités plus de 150 fois par an (hors auto-citations), ce qui marque une certaine reconnaissance internationale principalement pour ses travaux sur les singularités géométriques, l’homogénéisation numérique et les méthodes stochastiques d’optimisation.
