Kamel Doraï is researcher at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) currently based at MIGRINTER, University of Poitiers (France). From 2017 to 2021, he has been Director of the Department of contemporary studies at the French Institute for the Near East (Ifpo) and has coordinated the research program [LAJEH – Time of conflict / time of migration](http://lajeh.hypotheses.org), funded by the French National Agency for Scientific Research (2015-2019). He was previously based at the Ifpo in Damascus (Syria), Amman (Jordan) and Beirut (Lebanon). His work focuses mainly on asylum and refugees in the Middle East (Palestinians, Syrians and Iraqis), with a focus on migration and transnational practices within the Palestinian diaspora. He is currently conducting research on Syrian and Palestinian refugees from Syria in Jordan and Lebanon as well as on the urbanization process of Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. He develops comparative studies between refugees residing in and out of camps, as well as analysis of their migratory experience and spatial practices to map the relationships between refugee camps and their urban environment in the Middle East. De 2017 à 2021, il a été directeur du Département d’études contemporaines à l’Institut français du Proche-Orient (Ifpo) et a coordonné le programme de recherche [LAJEH – Temps des conflits / temps des migrations](http://lajeh.hypotheses.org), financé par l’Agence nationale de la recherche scientifique (2015-2019). Il a été basé à l’Ifpo de Damas (Syrie), Amman (Jordanie) et Beyrouth (Liban). Son travail porte principalement sur l’asile et les réfugiés au Moyen-Orient (Palestiniens, Syriens et Irakiens), avec un accent sur la migration et les pratiques transnationales au sein de la diaspora palestinienne. Il mène actuellement des recherches sur les réfugiés syriens et palestiniens de Syrie en Jordanie et au Liban ainsi que sur le processus d’urbanisation des camps de réfugiés palestiniens au Liban. Il développe des études comparatives entre les réfugiés résidant dans et hors des camps, ainsi que l’analyse de leur expérience migratoire et de leurs pratiques spatiales pour cartographier les relations entre les camps de réfugiés et leur environnement urbain au Moyen-Orient.
