Julien Sarrazin


He received in 2005 the M.S. degree in telecommunication and electrical engineering from the University of Nantes in France, the Master of Engineering from Polytech'Nantes, and in 2008, the Ph.D. degree in electronics and telecommunication from the University of Nantes. He then worked at the BK Birla Institute of Technology (BKBIET) of Pilani, India, in 2009 and 2010.

From 2005 to 2010, he conducted his research on collocated and reconfigurable microwave antennas for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems.

In 2011, he joined the Radio Frequency and Microwave group at Telecom ParisTech, in Paris, as a research engineer. There he worked on metamaterials for antennas, with a focus on high-impedance surfaces. He also developed new designs of antennas absorbers for space applications.

Since September 2012, he is an associate professor at Sorbonne University (former Pierre and Marie Curie University) in Paris, where he joined the Laboratory of Electronics and Electromagnetism (L2E) and later the Group of Electrical Engineering of Paris (GeePs) to conduct his research. Since then, he has (co)-supervised 15 PhD students. He received his HDR (French accreditation to supervise research) in 2018. During 2013-2019, he oversaw the P-SYS scientific theme at L2E, which dealt with connected systems in the vicinity of people. Since 2020, he is the head of the wave & propagationteam (19 Prof. & ass. Prof.) at GeePs. Since 2019, he is the vice-chair of the URSI-France B-commission.

He teaches at both Bachelor and Master levels, where he is the responsible of the courses of Waveguide Theory, Transmission Line Theory, and Wireless Communications.

He has been the coordinator of several collaborative projects including GEOHYPE (ANR JCJC), SMART-BAN (SMART LabEx), and NOVIS60 (CEFIPRA Indo-French center).

His field of scientific expertise is related to “Antennas and Propagation” with part of his activities oriented towards electromagnetics (e.g., radiating structure design, propagation channel modeling) and another part oriented towards communications (e.g., localization and focalization of data using multiple antenna systems).
