Johnny Gasperi est Docteur en Sciences et Techniques de l’Environnement (Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées - 2006). Au cours de sa thèse, il s’est intéressé aux sources et aux flux d’hydrocarbures au sein du réseau d’assainissement Parisien. Nommé maître de conférences en 2007 au LEESU, il a initié de nouvelles thématiques de recherche sur des substances prioritaires (HAP, PCB) sur les polluants émergents tels que les alkylphénols éthoxylés, les polybromodiphényléthers ou encore les phtalates. Pour ces différents polluants, il s’intéresse plus particulièrement aux sources et aux transferts de ces contaminants en milieux urbain et naturel. Depuis 2013, en collaboration avec Bruno Tassin, il s’intéresse aux débris plastiques - des macrodéchets aaux microplastiques - en milieu continental afin de mieux cerner leurs sources, transferts et flux à l’échelle de la ville et de son impact sur le milieu récepteur. Johnny Gasperi coordonne plusieurs projets de recherche sur les débris plastiques (Plastic-Seine, Macro-Plast) et est porteur d'un projet ANR sur les microplastiques et les sédiments continentaux (ANR Sédi-Plast). Il participe également à un projet européensur cette thématique - International Network Training, LimnoPlast.
