Jean-Pierre Briot is a Directeur de recherche (Research Professor) (First class - DR1) at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in France. He is Researcher at LIP6, the joint computer science research laboratory of Sorbonne Université (previously, Université Pierre et Marie Curie - Paris VI) and CNRS, in Paris, France. He is also Permanent Visiting Professor at Computer science Department (DI) of Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Brazil.
From 2010 to 2014, he has been the founding Director of CNRS Brasil, the permanent representation office of CNRS in Brazil.
Jean-Pierre Briot received his Doctorship/PhD in 1984 and his Habilitation à diriger des recherches in 1989, both in computer science and from Université Pierre et Marie Curie. He also holds faculty degrees in: mathematics (licence and maîtrise), music, musical acoustics, and japanese language.
His general research interests are about the design and construction of adaptive cooperative distributed software, at the crossing of programming languages, software engineering, artificial intelligence and distributed systems.
He has headed more than 20 research projects (ANR, CNRS, Europe, etc., several in cooperation with companies or/and international). At LIP6, he has headed the "Objects and Agents for Simulation and Information Systems" (OASIS) research department, including more than 60 researchers, from 1996 to 2005.
He has authored or co-authored more than 200 scientific publications.
He has advised or co-advised more than 20 PhD students and 20 master students.
