Jacques Py, Professor (full), University of Toulouse, France


Jacques Py is a Professor of social psychology at the University of Toulouse. Between 2008 and 2017, he managed a research team named « Social Context and regulation of the cognition » (CNRS Laboratory CLLE-LTC, UMR 5263). He previously held a post at University Paris 8 (2001-07) where he managed the social psychology Laboratory and conducted the pedagogical team of methodology and statistics.

 

 

He is a member of the office of scientific Council at Toulouse University, and was also a member of National Council of Universities - France (psychology section).

 

 

He has invested heavily in the animation of the scientific community (President elect of the french psychological Society (Société Française de Psychologie) during the period 2003-07, and General Secretary of the National French Committee of scientific Psychology (2003-08) in association with Academy of Sciences. He was also Vice-President in charge of scientific program of the 28th International Congress of Applied Psychology which was held in Paris on july 2014 (4500 delegates).

 

 

Since 2007, he is holding the position of Chief Editor of European Review of Applied Psychology (journal published by Elsevier, referenced inthe maindatabasesof thediscipline: ISI Social Science Citation Index ; Psyc Info ; Pascal/INIST-CNRS ; PsycLIT ; Scopus, ERIH). ERAP has been publishing since 1951. It is a bimonthly bilingual (french-english) journal which publishes between 30-35 papers each year out of one hundred received (IF2 2016 = 0.667 ; IF5 2016 = 0.885).

 

He is also Chief Editor (and the founder) of a new online journal of scientific popularization: Scientific psychology answers to frequently asked questions (published since 2007 on French Psychological Society’s website: www.sfpsy.org, the first psychological website in the french language).

 

 

 

His research focuses on the knowledge that individuals have about social norms. His interestfocuses in particularon relatively non-trivial and general norms which structure social relations (norm of internality, norm of consistency, etc.). He has also invested heavily, during the past 20 years, in the field of cognitive and social psychology of eyewitness testimony with particular emphasis given to an approach aiming at building interview protocols for justice professionals (police officers, judges, psychologists and psychiatrists working in the field of justice). Jacques Py has direct 16 Ph.D. thesis on these fields of research.
