Research interests
My research lies at the intersection of industrial engineering, operations management and health services research. I focus on three main themes:
- Improving patient pathways, particularly in cancer care, using simulation and medical database analysis.
- Quality and safety of care, in relationship with the organisation of medical and healthcare work, using ethnographic observation, interviews and human factors/ergonomics approaches.
- The role of engineering in health services, specifically how innovative design and prototyping can be promoted in a hospital environment.
Teaching
I teach operations and supply chain management to engineering students.
Services to the scientific community
I am an area editor for the journal Health Systems, where I also co-edit a special issue on participatory systems methods in healthcare improvement (call for papers).
I am a member of the Operational Research Society and the Design Society. I serve on the steering committee of the Design Society's Special Interest Group on Health Systems Design.
