Présentation
The first season of my research career focused on developing methods and tools for text analysis, topic detection and mapping using a mixture of symbolic (Natural Language Processing and Computational Terminology) and numeric approaches (statistical and mathematical models). Applications targeted were text mining, knowledge acquisition, terminology structuring, information Visualisation and Information Retrieval.
In my second season, I stepped back from the system oriented and empirical research to critically examine the theoretical and epistemological underpinnings of the data analysis methods and tools I had developed. This led me to become interested in the epistemology of Library and Information science and on the history and foundations of Information Science. I also researched the impact of Big Data and Open Data on science and society.
The third season of my research career has led me to focus on decolonial studies with a particular emphasis on racism, algorithmic bias and data colonialism. Leveraging Critical Race Theory (CRT) as theoretical framework, I deploy both qualitative and quantitative (digital) methods to make explicit how structural and systemic racism operate in the physical and virtual worlds. Adopting an action research oriented stance, I hope that my research will contribute towards more efficient anti-racism policies and action plans.
