Deborah Dubald

I am a Lecturer in the History fo Science and Health at the University of Strasbourg, with a specialty in the history of material cultures of nature, science and health. I am currently working on two projects: I am working at the publication of my thesis as a book on natural history museums in 19th century France, and I am also starting a research on the uses of medical collections, especially human remains but not exclusively, in academic (research and teaching) practices from 19th to 21st century. I hold a PhD in History from the European University Institute in Florence (2019), entitled “[Capital Nature: a History of French Municipal Museums of Natural History, 1795-1870](https://hdl.handle.net/1814/6530)”, for which I won the James Kaye Memorial Prize in 2020. Previously, I have held a postdoctoral position with the FNS/Sinergia project “[An interdisciplinary model to explain neverending infectious diseases. The case of syphilis, from 1859 to the present](https://neverending.unige.ch/)” for which I am still a scientific collaborator. Between 2018 and 2022, I successively held Teaching and Research Fellowships (ATER) at the University of Lille (2018-2020) and the University of Strasbourg (2020-2022), where I taught European modern history, the medical humanities, the history of health and life sciences, environmental history and the history of science museums and collections. I am a member of the [Collection<>Ecologies collective](https://collecte.hypotheses.org/), with whom I examine relations between history of collections, material cultures of nature and science, and environmental history. I have recently co-edited with Catarina Madruga (Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin) a special issue for the Journal of History of Knowledge It was published at the end of 2022 and is entitled “[Situated Nature: Field collecting and local knowledge in the nineteenth century](https://journalhistoryknowledge.org/situated-nature). Je suis maîtresse de conférences en histoire des sciences et de la santé à l'Université de Strasbourg, avec une spécialisation en histoire des cultures matérielles de la nature, des sciences et de la santé. Je travaille actuellement sur deux projets : Je travaille à la publication de ma thèse sur les musées d'histoire naturelle en France au 19e siècle ; et je commence également une recherche sur les usages des collections médicales, en particulier les restes humains, dans les pratiques académiques (recherche et enseignement) du 19e au 21e siècles. Je suis titulaire d'un doctorat en histoire de l'Institut universitaire européen de Florence (2019). Ma thèse intitulée "[Capital Nature: une histoire des musées municipaux d'histoire naturelle français, 1795-1870](http://hdl.handle.net/1814/65304) " a remporté le James Kaye Memorial Prize en 2020. Je travaille actuellement à la publication de ma thèse. Précedemment, j'ai été chercheuse postdoctorale pour le projet FNS/Sinergia "[Un modèle interdisciplinaire pour expliquer les maladies infectieuses sans fin. De 2018 à 2022, j'ai été successivement ATER à l'Université de Lille (2018-2020) et à l'Université de Strasbourg (2020-2022), où j'ai enseigné l'histoire contemporaine de l'Europe, les humanités médicales, l'histoire des sciences de la santé et des sciences de la vie, l'histoire environnementale et l'histoire des musées et collections scientifiques. Je suis membre du collectif [Collection<>Ecologies](https://collecte.hypotheses.org/), avec lequel j'interroge les relations entre histoire des collections, cultures matérielles de la nature et histoire environnementale.
