Charles Viaut. Publications

PhD candidate at the University of Poitiers (Centre d'études supérieures de civilisation médiévale-UMR 7302), my thesis deals with food in elite contexts in the North Aquitanian region, after initial research focused on the archaeology of castles. A former student of the École Nationale des Chartes (archivist-palaeographer, class of 2018), I am interested in written sources and their use in an interdisciplinary framework with regard to archaeology. My research themes are food and the environment in the Middle Ages as well as the history and archaeology of medieval places of power.

Thesis topic: "At the table of princes... and others". Food consumption and food practices on the castral and elite sites of northern Aquitaine and central-western France (10th-15th centuries), under the direction of Martin Aurell and Nicolas Prouteau.
