Cécile Bothorel

Cécile Bothorel received her Engineer Diploma in Computer Science in 1995, her PhD degree in Computer Science, Distributed Artificial Intelligence and her HdR (French accreditation to direct research) in 2023. She worked as a researcher at Orange Labs for 13 years where she conducted various research in Social Media Analysis, Machine Learning and Recommender Systems. In 2009, she joined the LUSSI department in IMT Atlantique, Brest. She is an Associate Professor of Computer Science, teaching Programming, Aalgorithmics, Graph Theory, Social Networks Analysis and is also involved in various teaching in Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She has been in charge of the Data Science one-year specialization of the Master of Science in Engineering "Diplôme d'Ingénieur" since 2016, and teaches Data Science courses and student projects, from CRISP-DM methodology to Data Visualization and Storytelling. As a member of UMR CNRS 6285 Lab-STICC, she works on Complex Networks Analysis and Graph Mining, focusing more particularly on the Detection of Communities of large datasets coming from the social web. She is specialized in Clustering, Attributed Networks, Temporal Networks. The application areas are various and in pluridisciplinary fields, e.g. Management (study of the promotion process within Wikipedia administration), Economics (study of the impact of social interactions in the success of crowdfounded projects) or Ecology (study of the topology of networks of habitats of sea species and their robustness to global warming). She has been an expert for innovative start-ups and the evaluation of research proposals for the ANR (French National Agency for Research programs). She is a Programme Committee Member for several international and national conferences (KDD, SIGKDD, ECML KDD, WSDM, COMPLEX NETWORKS, EGC, MARAMI, FRCCS...) and Journals (Applied Network Science, SNAM, IJPRAI, ACM TIST, IEEE TNNLS, IEEE TNSE, Scientific Reports...).

Cécile Bothorel est Maître de Conférences en Informatique à IMT Atlantique, HdR depuis 2023, et membre de l'équipe DECIDE, UMR CNRS Lab-STICC, depuis 2009. Spécialisée dans l'Analyse de Grands Graphes Réels (Complex Networks, Social Network Analysis), elle dirige des recherches en fouille de données modélisables sous forme de réseaux (ou graphes). Elle s'intéresse en particulier à la détection de communautés (clustering) et à l'analyse de leur dynamiques. Elle a une prédilection pour les terrains applicatifs en Science Humaines et Sociales, comme le eMarketing, le Management de communautés en ligne ou encore l'économie sur des questions de Crowdfunding. Mais elle s'intéresse également à la détection d'anomalies en Cybersécurité ou encore aux pratiques des usagers d'Aires Marines Protégées sur les médias sociaux. Depuis 2016, Cécile Bothorel est responsable de la filière Data Science "Des données au décideur" (Campus de Brest), enseignement dispensé en 2ième année ou 3ième année du cursus des ingénieurs généralistes mais aussi en Master IT/DS. Elle participe également aux enseignements, cours et suivi de projets en Data Science, mais aussi en Programmation Informatique, Algorithmique et Théorie des Graphes, Analyse de Réseaux Sociaux, ou encore en Créativité, Innovation et Entreprenariat. Avant de rejoindre l'IMT Atlantique, elle a passé 13 années chez Orange Labs à Rennes puis à Lannion en tant que Doctorante puis Ingénieur Recherche et Développement sur des sujets tels que les Systèmes Multi-Agents, les Systèmes de Recommandation et l'Analyse de Réseaux Sociaux appliqués au Knowledge Management, au eLearning et au plate-formes communautaires.
