Entre à l’INRA en 1989 à Clermont-Ferrand comme ingénieur de recherche en charge d’un programme d’amélioration du ray grass anglais. A conduit un programme de recherche sur les champignons endophytes des graminées fourragères de 1990 à 2000, puis a travaillé sur la synthèse des protéines de réserve du blé en lien avec la qualité technologique et la qualité nutritionnelle
