Présentation
Bernard Yannou ([LinkedIn](http://lnkd.in/dVX8w_k)) is a Distinguished Professor of EngineeringDesign and Director of the Industrial Engineering Research Department (Laboratoire Génie Industriel, [LGI](http://www.lgi.ecp.fr/)) at [CentraleSupélec](http://www.ecp.fr/) (Ecole Centrale Paris, before 2015). He received an M.Sc. (1988) in Mechanical Engineering from Ecole Normale Supérieure of Cachan (ENSC), an M.Sc. (1989) in Computer Science from Paris-6 University, and a Ph.D. (1994) in Industrial Engineering from ENSC.
His research interests are design automation, design management / methodologies / new product development, value and user-centered design, artificial intelligence and computers in design, system thinking and engineering, design under uncertainty, decision-based design, innovation engineering, sustainable design, and industrial ecology, and multidisciplinary design optimization.
He has conducted research for a number of industrial companies: Dassault Systemes, Renault, Schlumberger, Johnson Controls, Airbus, Eurocopter, Snecma, Areva, Alstom Grid, Valeo, city of Paris. He has supervised 28 Ph.D. theses in design engineering and is currently supervising 4 Ph.D. doctorates. He has been the author or co-author of more than 400 papers ([ResearchGate](https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Bernard_Yannou/), [HAL](https://cv.archives-ouvertes.fr/bernard-yannou), [Google scholar](http://scholar.google.fr/citations?user=s9NTukYAAAAJ&hl=fr)) with review committee, including 80 journal papers. He also coordinated 10 books on product design and innovation.
In education, he developed and teaches [Radical Innovation Design ](http://www.cips.ecp.fr/)methodology (RID) to innovate radically while systematically exploring usage segments. This approach can also manage an innovation portfolio by measuring the potential for creating usefulness, newness, profitability, and proofs of concept so as to associate demanding usage spaces with technological potentials. Since 2008, RID has enabled the development of radical innovation scenarios in more than 40 companies on 50 projects ([testimonies](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCC6Y-7MyOL8wW8RNlNmo5Qg)).
He is member of the Advisory Board of the Design Society, member of the ASME and of INCOSE/AFIS on system engineering. He was associate-editor of the Journal of Mechanical Design (JMD) between 2009 and 2015. He currently sits on the Editorial Boards of 3 journals: [Design Science Journal](http://www.designsciencejournal.org/) (DSJ), [Research in Engineering Design](http://link.springer.com/journal/163) (RED), [International Journal of Design Creativity and Innovation](http://www.tandfonline.com/loi/tdci20) (IJDCI). He is appointed by the French Ministry of Research for the quality evaluation of research institutions and educational curricula in his domain..
