Research activities

The main theme of my research is the study of formulated polymeric materials (composition, evolution of chemical structure and mechanical properties) when they interact with their environment under conditions of use (light, temperature, oxygen, drug solution, etc.). Current research activities concern studies of containing/content interactions of polymers constituting medical devices (MDs).

 

Polymer tubings are in direct contact with medicinal, nutritional or biological fluids during acts of infusion, artificial nutrition, dialysis or other extracorporeal circulation, oxygen therapy. Interactions that may pose risks to the patient can occur at the interface between these fluids and DMs: from the container to the content (leaching of compounds present in the device to the perfused fluid) or from the content to the container (adsorption or absorption of the medicinal product on or in the material). In either direction, these interactions can have an impact on the patient’s health and should be evaluated.
