Vincent Battesti, social anthropologist

Vincent Battesti (1970-) is researcher in Social Anthropology for the CNRS (French National Scientific Research Center).

His lab. is UMR 7206 (Eco-anthropology & Ethnobiology) at the Musée de l'Homme, Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris. He is also, since 2015, visiting scholar at Columbia University (New York), Department of Anthropology, and former visiting scholar at Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies, at New York University (New York) from 2012 to 2015.

His main fields of research deal with the ecological anthropology (or ethnoecology) — specialized on the oases ecosystem (he works currently on the relationships to the environment in Siwa Oasis in the Libyan Desert in Egypt) —, with the urban anthropology (he works on the publics spaces and parks/gardens in Cairo, Egypt) — and especially on the acoustic ambiances, for an anthropology of sensory perceptions.

He starts also new fieldworks in the South of Egypt, with two different collaborations with archaeologists, one the Eastern Desert near Aswan, the other the Western Desert in al-Khaga and al-Dakhla oases.
