Antonio Manzalini

Antonio MANZALINI received the M. Sc. Degree in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico of Turin. In 1990 he joined CSELT, which then became Telecom Italia Lab. He started his job activities on research and development of technologies and architectures for future optical networks. In this avenue, he was actively involved in leading positions in several EURESCOM and EC funded Project (e.g. MWTN, LION, NOBEL). He chaired as Rapporteur (in two consecutive Study Periods) two ITU-T Questions responsible for the ITU-T Standards on transport networks. He is author of a book on Network Synchronization (for SDH) and his RTD results are published in more than100 papers and publications. He has several patents on network and systems. In 2003 he was appointed as member of the Scientific Committee of Centre Tecnologic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC). In 2006 he led the FP6 CASCADAS project dealing with innovative solutions for autonomic computing and networking. In 2008 he has been awarded with the International Certification of Project Manager by PMI. In 2013 he led the Activity "Smart Networks at the Edge" funded by the European Institute of Technology (EIT-Digital); Institute of Technology (EIT-Digital). He has served the TPC of several IEEE Conferences. He is General Chair of the IEEE SDN Initiative <http://sdn.ieee.org/> He is currently joining the Strategy and Innovation Dept. of Telecom Italia (Future Centre) addressing mainly innovation activities concerning future networks and services (e.g., Software Defined Networks, Network Function Virtualization, 5G).
