Participation in the research line "Epidemiology and management of chronic diseases". Co- coordinator of three population-based studies about hypertension and diabetes management by the Brazilian Family Health Program (SERVIDIAH, INTERDIA, RedeNut, 2007-2017). Analyses of the Paris Prospective Study which contributed to support the concept of the metabolic syndrome as a risk factor for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Design and coordination of the BIGPRO trial, first attempt to test, vs. placebo, an insulin sensitising agent, metformin, for correcting metabolic abnormalities in upper-body obese, non-diabetic subjects.
