In the framework of energy transition, prospective studies are used to assess main technical and economic drivers in order to help identify most efficient policy levers. French case is specific since there is a significant amount of the energy used that comes from nuclear source. This is why nuclear scenario constitutes one of the strategic tools for producing expertise and knowledge related to the future of the electricity mix. Nuclear scenarios are based on nuclear fuel cycle simulators which aim to model an entire fleet of nuclear facilities. Fuel cycle simulators are used worldwide and by many institutions for wide range of applications:
- Data production for assessing the future of nuclear energy and highlight decision making process
- Optimization of industrial operations related to an existing nuclear fleet in support of the operator
- Evaluation of nuclear fleet and/or fuel strategy by national or international safety authorities
- Research and development training tool
We developp since 2011 in the framework of a CNRS/IN2P3 collaboration the fuel cycle simulator CLASS ([CLASS repository](https://gitlab.in2p3.fr/sens/CLASS)). Electro-nuclear scenarios are part of a larger effort dedicated to produce knowledge in the framework of energy transition. An interdisciplinary team is being build with academic researchers from Nantes and Paris/Orsay. The goal is to gather experts from several scientific fields (sociology, economy, physics, applied mathematics, etc.) around energy transition problematics.

**Projects Management**

### PISE Project (since 2016)
PISE stands for Interdisciplinary program on energy transition. Project goals are multiple. First, it aims to perform energy transition modelling from economics and physics models coupling in order to assess the impact of the renewable electricity sources increase on nuclear costs. Innovative methodologies for scenario studies are based on Global Sensitivity Analysis. Second, the project aims to assess the role and usage of scenarios in industrial and political decision making process.
### FIT Project (since 2016)
The FIT Project has been conceived to understand the circumstances under which the choice of algorithm and/or model influences the conclusions that one might draw from a fuel cycle simulation. The project aims to characterize the relationship between model fidelity and desired confidence level in the context of many differing research questions. Among functionalities of interest, this first FIT focuses on the ability of fuel cycle software to build fresh fuel in accordance with the available material and with associated reactor requirements. The FIT project is a Collaboration that gathers CNRS/IN2P3 and 6 international laboratories (from US and EU) on fuel cycle tools.
